A TRACE OF RESILIENCE AND SOLIDARITY

On the occasion of the organizations for commemorating the 50th anniversary of the Revolt of Spaç Prison, the Authority unveiled the “Art installation ‘Traces of resistance and solidarity’”, with 10 human silhouettes, as a sign of remembrance and experience of the pain, suffering, and resistance that women, children, and relatives of the convicted persons endured every day. The installation “Traces of resistance and solidarity” under the hashtag #NeverAgainDictatorship, contains the stories of 10 people who suffered in Spaç prison, including also their female relatives, women, mothers and children, who, just like their imprisoned relatives, faced injustice with perseverance and human dignity.

Iljas Kajoformer political prisoner on the charge of agitation and propaganda. He served the sentence of 8 years’ imprisonment in Spaç.

Ioann Çeliwas 16 years old when his father, Petro Çela, was arrested, a military man convicted as a political prisoner on the charge of violent acts against the people’s power.

Leonard Bejko, was 5 years old when his father, Dervish Bejko, was executed by firing squad, sentenced in 1971 on the charge of attempted escape. He is one of those sentenced to death from the Spaç Revolt, which erupted on 21 May 1973.

Lirie Alibali, the wife of Ylli Alibali and the sister-in-law of Xhevat Alibali, former prisoners sentenced on the charge of agitation and propaganda.

Luke Syku, the wife of Prel Syku, arrested and sentenced to 20 years’ imprisonment on the charge of agitation and propaganda.

Menduhije Pojani, the daughter of Njazi Bylykbashi, former political prisoner, for agitation and propaganda. He served the sentence in Spaç prison.

Napoleon Gumeni, was 10 years old in April 1970, when his father, Izet Gumeni, was arrested, sentenced to 25 years’ deprivation of liberty on the charge of cooperation with bands.

Ornela Vorpsi, the daughter of Seit Vorpsi, a political prisoner sentenced on the charge of agitation and propaganda. He served 8 years of imprisonment, the overwhelming part in Spaç.

Rajmond Sejko, the eldest son of Teme Sejko, arrested and sentenced for agitation and propaganda, with 8 years’ imprisonment in Spaç.

Ylber Merdani, former political prisoner, on the charge of agitation and propaganda. He served the sentence of about 10 years’ imprisonment in Spaç.
