"ORGANIC STRUCTURE OF THE SPAÇ PRISON-CAMP"
According to the organic structure from an administrative standpoint, the Spaç Prison-Camp, known as Re-education Unit No. 303, was organized as a military unit.
It was guarded internally by police and externally by soldiers. In this sense, the camp commander was not only the commander of the soldiers, but also of the prisoners. He entered prisoner facilities, was responsible for the overall military-administrative functioning of the camp, and for maintaining order.
Next in the hierarchy was the Commissar, who dealt with the re-education component in the camp and oversaw ideological work, such as reading the works of dictator Enver Hoxha, the press, and what was called the “ideological-political preparation” of police and military personnel.
The command was located outside the camp enclosure. The Unit Command consisted of: the commander, the commissar, the political instructor, the operative worker, the cipher clerk, the head of administration, and the radio operator. The rear service had 5 officers and 1 civilian, while Finance had 1 officer and 1 civilian as accountant for prisoners.
Spaç was a camp surrounded by difficult terrain and as such had 5 platoons for securing the Unit, as well as an organic service plan .(photo)
For internal security, there was 1 platoon composed of 42 personnel (officer, non-commissioned officer, police, as well as tracking dogs).
For external security of the unit, there were 4 platoons, specifically:
The First Platoon, composed of 3 squads, with 35 personnel (officer, soldier, cook).
The Second Platoon, composed of 3 squads, with 18 personnel (officer, soldiers: mortar operator, rifleman, and chemist).
The Third Platoon, composed of 3 squads, with 26 personnel (officer, soldier, cook).
The Fourth Platoon, composed of 3 squads, with 24 personnel (officer, soldier, grenade launcher, as well as cook).
These structures had detailed duties, reflected in the Measures Plans to assess the combat readiness of personnel in guarding prisoners and in the orders issued by the Police Directorate for the implementation of security and re-education regulations for prisoners.
The organic structure of the Spaç labor camp was proposed by the unit command after a study and analysis based on the current situation.(photo)
