"ORGANIZATIONAL STRUCTURE OF THE SPAÇ LABOR CAMP"
According to the organic structure from an administrative perspective, the Spaç Labor Camp, known as Re-education Unit No. 303, was organized like a military unit."
It was guarded inside by police and outside by soldiers. In this sense, the camp commander was not only the commander of the soldiers but also of the prisoners. He entered the prisoners’ quarters and was responsible for the overall military-administrative functioning of the camp and for maintaining order.
Next in the hierarchy was the Commissar, who was in charge of the re-educational part of the camp and oversaw ideological work, such as reading the works of the dictator Enver Hoxha, the press, and also monitored what was called the 'ideo-political preparation' of the police and soldiers.
The command was located outside the camp enclosure. The Unit Command consisted of: the commander, the commissar, the political instructor, the operational worker, the cipher officer, the head of administration, and the radio operator. The rear echelon had 5 officers and 1 civilian, while the Finance department had 1 officer and 1 civilian serving as the accountant for the prisoners.
Spaç was a fenced camp in difficult terrain and, as such, had 5 guard shifts for securing the Unit, as well as a service plan for the staff.(photo)
For internal security, there was 1 platoon consisting of 42 personnel (officers, non-commissioned officers, police, as well as tracking dogs).
For the external security of the unit, there were 4 platoons, specifically;
The 1st platoon consisted of 3 squads, with 35 personnel (officer, soldier, cook).
The 2nd platoon consisted of 3 squads, with 18 personnel (officer, mortar soldiers, riflemen, and chemist).
The 3rd platoon consisted of 3 squads, with 26 personnel (officer, soldier, cook).
The 4th platoon consisted of 3 squads, with 24 personnel (officer, soldier, grenade launcher operator, and cook).
These structures had detailed responsibilities, which are also reflected in the Action Plans to assess the combat readiness of personnel in guarding the prisoners, as well as in the orders issued by the Police Directorate for implementing the regulations on the security and re-education of the prisoners.
The organic structure of the Spaç labor camp was proposed by the unit command after a study and analysis based on the current situation.(photo)
