Tirana, 20 May 2025 – On the occasion of the 52nd anniversary of the Spaç Revolt, the Authority for Information on the Documents of the former State Security organized a commemorative ceremony on the premises of the Prime Minister’s Library, presenting for the first time the digital platform www.spac.al, an open archive for documentation and education about the history of the Spaç prison camp and the crimes of communism in Albania.

AIDSSH Products Dedicated to the Spaç Rebellion Exhibited for the First Time

Tirana, 20 December 2024- Photographs and illustrations, testimonies and publications, a documentary, and a website with the keyword “Spaç”, products that strengthen memory, were exhibited for the first time at the “Agimi” Art Center by the Authority for Information on the Documents of the former State Security (AIDSSH), in the presence of survivors, their families, memory actors, partners, etc.

TRACES OF MEMORY IN SPAÇ, YOUNG PEOPLE “TOUCH” THE DICTATORSHIP

STUDENTS OF THE “PROTAGONISTËT” HIGH SCHOOL GET TO KNOW THE SPAÇ REVOLT.

Students of the “Protagonistët” high school visited AIDSSH, becoming acquainted with the history of the Spaç Revolt, the documents, and the oral testimonies that come from that prison. The visit continued to the Authority’s archive, where the documents of the former State Security are preserved.

APPRECIATIONS FOR THE STUDENTS WHO CREATED A LOGO FOR THE 50TH ANNIVERSARY OF THE SPAÇ REVOLT

At the conclusion of the competition conducted among the country’s art schools with the aim of creating a logo dedicated to the 50th anniversary of the Spaç Revolt, with the ultimate aim of educating the younger generation about the injustices of the past and the growing need, the winners of the best works were announced

THE SPAÇ REBELLION, IN A CLASSROOM LESSON AT “QEMAL STAFA” HIGH SCHOOL

The Authority for Information on the Documents of the former State Security, in cooperation with the Ministry of Education and Sports, followed the lesson hour held at the “Qemal Stafa” high school, in commemoration of the Spaç revolt, 21–23 May 1973, within the framework of its 50th anniversary, with the aim of raising the awareness of generations about this event and others related to the country’s past under communism.

SPAÇ IN THE ARCHIVES -50 YEARS SINCE THE REVOLT, THE AUTHORITY ENCOURAGES ACADEMICS FOR THE LEGAL APPROACH TO DOCUMENTS

In the activity “Spaç in the archives – 50 years since the Revolt”, documents from the archive of the former State Security were exhibited regarding the forced labour camp in Spaç, the revolt, the death penalty decisions, and the re-sentencings. Also made known were other official documents, secured within the framework of institutional cooperation, on the nature of forced labour during the dictatorship, involving political prisoners in the extraction of copper and pyrite minerals.

AIDSSH ANNOUNCES THE COMPETITION FOR THE CREATION OF A LOGO WITH THE SYMBOLISM: “50 YEARS SINCE THE SPAÇ REVOLT”

MEETING OF EXPERTS ON ELEMENTS OF FORCED LABOUR IN THE SPAÇ MINE
(Tirana, April 7, 2023)
The unpaid labour of political opponents in mines was a serious violation of human rights under communism. Regarding the element of forced labour, unpaid as a form of punishment for beliefs or political activity, in writing, discussions were held with financial experts, academics, and engineers of the mining industry in the country

THE 45TH ANNIVERSARY OF THE SPAÇ REVOLT IS COMMEMORATED

In commemoration of the 45th anniversary of the Spaç Revolt, AIDSSH was present in Spaç, in the former Unit No. 303, which operated from 1968 until 1991, to commemorate this event.
