Tirana, 20 May 2025 – On the occasion of the 52nd anniversary of the Spaç Revolt, the Authority for Information on the Documents of the former State Security organized a commemorative ceremony on the premises of the Prime Minister’s Library, presenting for the first time the digital platform www.spac.al, an open archive for documentation and education about the history of the Spaç prison camp and the crimes of communism in Albania.

AIDSSH Products Dedicated to the Spaç Rebellion Exhibited for the First Time

Tirana, 20 December 2024- Photographs and illustrations, testimonies and publications, a documentary, and a website with the keyword “Spaç”, products that strengthen memory, were exhibited for the first time at the “Agimi” Art Center by the Authority for Information on the Documents of the former State Security (AIDSSH), in the presence of survivors, their families, memory actors, partners, etc.

TRACES OF MEMORY IN SPAÇ, YOUTH “TOUCH” THE DICTATORSHIP

HIGH SCHOOL STUDENTS “PROTAGONISTËT” LEARN ABOUT THE SPAÇ REBELLION

Students of the “Protagonistët” high school visited AIDSSH, becoming acquainted with the history of the Spaç Revolt, the documents, and the oral testimonies that come from that prison. The visit continued to the Authority’s archive, where the documents of the former State Security are preserved.

EVALUATIONS FOR STUDENTS WHO CREATED THE LOGO FOR THE 50TH ANNIVERSARY OF THE SPAÇ REBELLION

THE SPAÇ REBELLION, IN A CLASSROOM LESSON AT “QEMAL STAFA” HIGH SCHOOL

The Authority for the Information on the Documents of the former State Security, in collaboration with the Ministry of Education and Sports, attended a classroom lesson held at “Qemal Stafa” High School, in commemoration of the Spaç Rebellion (May 21–23, 1973), on the occasion of its 50th anniversary. The aim was to raise awareness among students about this event and other related aspects of the country’s past under communism.

THE AUTHORITY ON A PILGRIMAGE: A TRACE OF RESILIENCE AND SOLIDARITY, IN COMMEMORATION OF THE 50TH ANNIVERSARY OF THE SPAÇ REBELLION

On the occasion of the 50th anniversary commemorations of the Spaç Prison Rebellion, the Authority for the Information on the Documents of the former State Security organized a pilgrimage on May 21, 2023. The event began at the last kilometer of the road, at the entrance of the former Spaç Prison, and concluded within the premises of the former prison.

SPAÇ IN ARCHIVES – 50 YEARS SINCE THE REBELLION, THE AUTHORITY URGES ACADEMICS TO ADOPT A LEGAL APPROACH TO DOCUMENTS

At the event “Spaç in Archives – 50 Years Since the Rebellion,” documents from the archives of the former State Security were exhibited, covering the forced labor camp in Spaç, the rebellion, death sentences, and retrials. Additionally, other official documents obtained through institutional cooperation were presented, detailing the nature of forced labor during the dictatorship, including the involvement of political prisoners in extracting copper and pyrite.

AIDSSH ANNOUNCES CONTEST FOR CREATING A SYMBOLIC LOGO: “50 YEARS SINCE THE SPAÇ REBELLION”

In collaboration with the Ministry of Education and Sports, the Authority announced a contest for creating a symbolic logo: “50 Years Since the Spaç Rebellion,” open to students of artistic high schools in pre-university education.

EXPERT MEETING ON ELEMENTS OF FORCED LABOR IN THE SPAÇ MINE
(Tirana, April 7, 2023)
Unpaid labor imposed on political opponents in the mines was a serious violation of human rights under communism. Regarding the element of forced labor, performed without payment as a form of punishment for political beliefs or activities, discussions were held with financial experts, academics, and engineers from the country’s mining industry.

COMMEMORATING THE 45TH ANNIVERSARY OF THE SPAÇ REBELLION

In commemoration of the 45th anniversary of the Spaç Rebellion, AIDSSH was present in Spaç, at former Ward No. 303, which operated from 1968 until 1991, to honor this event.
