He was sentenced on October 15, 1980, on charges of agitation and propaganda, to 10 years of imprisonment. On March 27, 1987, he regained his freedom through work and amnesty.

My dear ones,
I am fine, and I wish the same for you. It’s been almost a month here, and I haven't received a letter from you, I don’t know how to explain this. Maybe it can be explained by your fatigue, or who knows, but in any case, if your feelings and thoughts have run dry, you can send me a telegram from time to time so I at least know you're in good health. You had written to me that you wanted to come in December; do as you see fit, always considering the weather. If, for any reason, you think it necessary, send me the stockings and socks by package. It would be good if you came with Dava, it would be both a way and a task. If Manjola isn’t working with the book, bring it to me. The weather has been very good so far, if you have decided, it would be good to take advantage of it. Give my regards to mom and Erton.

Today, as I write these lines to you, my dear Loli and my beloved Erton, in the morning you wished each other a happy birthday, and no doubt you thought that something was missing—your father's greeting—although I am far from you, just like every day, today even more, I greet you and wish you a happy birthday. My mind and spirit were with you. I hope and wish that next year, when Erton turns 10, I will wake you up by kissing your eyes and making you happy myself, not with telegrams and letters. My dear Loli, I received the letter dated 18.03, and I also received the two telegrams. I sent you a birthday greeting telegram, and I believe you should have received it today. Now, these days, I live with the thought that in two weeks I will have you with me, and I will rejoice with you. I will make the request for the meeting on 15.04, as I haven’t made any request for a meeting yet. You wrote to me that Matilda sent me a letter, maybe I have received it, but I can't say for sure, since Matilda writes letters without dates.
Manjola kishte fillu punën, të më shkruajë se nuk e ka marrë me mërzi punën, më vjen mirë e ishalla i prin për së mbari, më merr malli për atë shejtane dhe e dua fort. Mama si është me shëndet, Dava me fëmijë si janë, Lajdja si u ba me shëndet, Vali me fëmijë si është? Në lidhje me muhabetin e Matildës, më duket se nuk është e hijshme që të takohet me atë djalin, e aq ma tepër Matilda. Për këtë çështje, ti e di se çfarë kërkese kam, dua të di mendimin e njerëzve të mi në Shkodër, megjithatë do bisedojmë kur të vini. Nevoja të veçanta nuk kam, me përjashtim të gjyzlykëve që të kam shkrojtur, po pate mundësi më sill duhan dhe po gjete kafe. Po e përfundoj duke ju uru edhe një herë ty e Tonit ditëlindjen e viti tjetër ishalla së bashku. Ju puth të gjithëve me mall. Mojsit i nevojiten një palë shapka.
